Article Directory List
Lesson 23 from You Can Make Money Writing
I promised you an article directory list, and I did include
a short list earlier in the course (the top four). Below is a
more complete list. These are ones that I have used or am using
right now, so I know they work. (You will be surprised how many
directories have problems with their systems). Feel free to let
me know if any of these have stopped working - just see the contact
page or respond to any newsletter mailing.
Copy and paste this list in a file somewhere in your computer.
Be sure to add to it as you find other good article directories.
Bookmark the sign-in page of the ones that you regularly use,
to save time. Delete directories as they go out of business or
become too difficult to use (it happens often, unfortunately).
The Article Directory List
Notes: The higher the Google PageRank of the directory's
homepage, the better (generally). I no longer note the PageRank
of the directories here, because it seems to change so often
(both up and down) with many of them. At the time I put this
list together only a couple of these were PR 3 The rest were
PR 4, PR 5 or PR 6.
If I have anything else to say about a particular directory,
it's noted in parenthesis. Here's the directory list:
http://www.ezinearticles.com (the best - highest quality -
great place to get articles to use)
http://www.buzzle.com (the second best, also takes poetry
and fiction)
http://www.goarticles.com (one of the easiest to use - good
for getting other's articles to use)
http://www.ideamarketers.com (I sometimes get a lot of traffic
from this one)
http://www.amazines.com (easy to use)
http://www.articledashboard.com
http://www.free-articles-zone.com
http://www.articlealley.com

Rotating Articles Strategy
As explained previously, links to your site may be downgraded
in importance by search engines, if added too quickly. You can
submit just one article daily, or try the following strategy.
If you have more than one website, rotate your submissions.
With three sites, for example, you can submit an three articles
weekly - one for each site. That way, if you submit to a dozen
directories, you have build only 12 links weekly to each site.
Another advantage of this strategy: your articles from different
sites will likely be in different categories. Most directories
add new articles to the top of category lists, so you'll have
good exposure in many categories, rather than pushing your own
articles out of the way with your new ones.
Specialty Directories
This top half of the this list has the best article directories
(more or less). However, this is based on my own experience,
and the best sites for some article topics will be different
than for others. Experiment. Those above are also all general
directories that take articles on almost any subjects. There
are many article directories that specialize in a certain area.
Some examples:
http://www.topten.org ( accepts only business articles)
http://www.businesstoolchest.com (accepts only internet and
home-business articles)
http://www.selfgrowth.com (accepts only self improvement related
articles)
http://www.positivearticles.com (accepts only self improvement
related articles)
http://www.buzzle.com (general directory, but one of the few
that takes poetry submissions)
http://www.realestatearticledirectory.com (real estate related
articles)
http://article.estateround.com (real estate related articles)
http://www.travelinghippo.com (travel related articles)
http://www.travelwebdir.com (travel related articles)
http://www.travelarticlelibrary.com (travel related articles)
http://www.site-reference.com (internet, website, and search
engine optimization articles)
A previous lesson covered how to find and choose good article
directories, and another explained how to search for specialty
directories. You may want to refer to those when you start making
your own article directory list.
Social Networking Sites
You can post your articles in some social networking sites,
or you can link to them (whether on your website or in a directory)
from these sites. Each site has its own rules, and this is an
area of the internet which is changing fast. Here is a short
list of some of the kinds of websites that we have found useful.
http://www.dropjack.com
http://www.socialmedian.com
http://www.propeller.com
http://www.i-am-bored.com
http://shoutwire.com
http://www.traveltipcenter.com
http://www.topix.com

Last Note
Before you submit a pile of articles to any directory or other
site, try it once. Some make it very easy to correct your mistakes,
but with others if you made a mistake and the link doesn't work
(making the submission worthless), there is virtually no way
to fix it.
Our routine is to try several new directories at a time with
just one article. As they approve the article, which can take
weeks for some, we can see if it displays properly, if the link
works, and if there is anything at all we need to do differently.
Some seem to allow HTML, for example, but strip it all out
once the article is posted. Some have no preview feature, so
you have no idea how the article will appear until you have one
posted. You don't want to find out that you made a simple mistake
on fifteen submissions, making all of them worthless, so test
each directory from start (submission) to finish (article is
on the site) before submitting more than one article.
Thank You
I hope you enjoyed and used this e-book/course. You now know
more than enough to start promoting your website with articles,
or to start making money from your writing in one of the other
ways covered in this book.
So start writing!
