Article Submission Guidelines

Continuation of Lesson 12 from You Can Make Money Writing

Now wee look at some article submission guidelines. I strongly suggest that you have a routine to follow. It doesn't have to be the same as mine, but it should make things go quickly when you submit your articles. The following is the routine that I used to use (and which may still be best for you).

1. I open my article file for a website, which has all the articles in it that promote that particular website. I minimize the file, so it's at the bottom of my screen, for easy access. I will be opening and closing this and other files repeatedly.

2. I open the file called "Article Directories," which has my list of currently-used article directories. I minimize that one for the moment as well.

3. I get online, and copy the first URL from my directory list, and paste it in my internet browser, hit enter, login to my account and go to the submission form. I start to fill in the fields on the form.

Note: I have an "auto fill" feature on my Google tool bar, so I can click once to fill in the boxes that ask for name or email address. This can really speed things up, not only with article submissions, but with many online activities.

4. I open up my article file for a particular site, and find the next article to submit. I copy the title and enter it into the form, then do the same with the description, keywords, body of the article and author's resource box. Just fill in all the fields.

5. I quickly scan the article for any problems, and make any necessary corrections. If there is a "preview" button, I use that and check to be sure the article displays properly and that the link in the resource box works. Either way (with or without a preview) the next step is to simply hit the "submit" button.

6. I open up the article directory list, copy and paste the next URL into the browser, and repeat the whole process to submit the article to that directory. Fifteen minutes later I have submitted my article to more than ten directories.

By the way, you never should almost be typing anything into the article submission forms - it's just too slow (some directory submission forms will even "time out" if you take too long, so you lose all your work). Have it all ready to copy and paste. I even have my name ready next to the title, for those directories that don't add your name automatically. There may occasionally be a field that other directories don't have, and you'll have to fill that one in manually. But if it is a directory you plan to use regularly, have that part ready to copy and paste as well.

The above is actually a simplified version of my routine. I'll go into a little more detail on how to really speed things up below. First, though, let's look at what has changed in my current submission process. I left the older routine laid out above because different ways will work better for different purposes.

Another Article Submission Routine

First, I no longer do the submissions myself. I try more and more to focus on the writing part, so my wife is handling the article submissions. You could also have one of your children to do this for you if you find yourself writing a lot of articles, or if you want to write more but need some time freed up.

At Ana's suggestion I have started to keep articles for all websites in one file. Actually, I put 20 in a file, and then start another file. I have basic resource boxes for each website prepared and kept in another file. I copy and paste these at the end of each article as I write it, making any adjustments to them as necessary.

We linked our computers together (okay, Ana did - I hate the technical stuff), so when I have an article file ready I put it into our common files. Then Ana can start the submission process for that one while I start a new file with another twenty articles. She is submitting about three or four per week manually to a dozen directories, and also using article submission software to submit them to a hundred others. There is more coming on why you should "pace" your submissions and whether or not you should use article submission software.

Ana also found that having the login pages of the directories on her "bookmarks" or "favorites" list in her browser speeds things up. You don't need to have a "Directory List" file open in this way.
