Some Good Article Directories
Continuation of Lesson 4 from You Can Make Money
Writing
I will cover how to maximize each of these sources of traffic
(and others) in coming lessons. In the meantime, here are four
good article directories, with notes on what I like and don't
like about them. These are all free directories at the moment.
I've looked into the ones that charge a fee, and I haven't seen
any evidence that they are any better.
A possible exception to my "never pay a fee" rule
is EzineArticles.com. They recently started charging a hefty
monthly fee for faster inclusion. Since they so far are still
processing "regular" submissions in less than a week,
I have not paid the fee yet, but this directory is so valuable
that if I have to pay the fee at some point I will. (2011 Update
- No need to pay that I can see - they still process and post
submissions quickly regardless.)
1. http://ezinearticles.com - As mentioned, if I had
to pay a monthly fee for this one I would. This is the best of
them all. I figure this one directory alone is worth hundreds
of dollars monthly to me, just in direct traffic alone.
2. http://www.buzzle.com - This is the second best
for direct traffic for me so far. They also are one of the few
directories that take fictional stories and poetry.
3. http://www.goarticles.com - Unfortunately Go Articles
allows a lot of junk into their directory, but it is very easy
to use, and they make it easy to correct your articles after
they are posted.
4. http://www.amazines.com - Easy to use and other
directories get articles from here (that is the biggest reason
to use this one).
This is enough to get you started. There is a more complete
list of good article directories in an upcoming lesson. All of
the above are general topic directories. They will take articles
on anything from dog-training to travel to used car buying tips.
Specialty Directories
There are also specialty directories that cover just certain
topics or areas. There are business directories, for example,
that only accept articles on business-related topics. There are
internet- marketing article directories. There are self improvement
article directories.
You can use the search engines to find specialty directories
in your area of interest. For example, entering "article
directory"+backpacking into a search engine might give you
a directory or two that specialize in backpacking articles. Actually,
I just tried it, and there were some.
Your articles in specialty directories may have less competition
for readers, and more interested readers as well. The latter
can mean a higher conversion of readers into visitors. For this
reason, these may be the best article directories for you. Experiment,
and do your best to track the results.
