The Rest of the Keyword Optimization Process
Continuation of Lesson 5 from You Can Make Money
Writing
Here's a quick look at the rest of the keyword optimization
process for writing articles that will be found and read. This
will be covered in more detail in coming lessons. Much of this
applies to pages as well as the articles you write.
4. Open a File
In this case, I already have one for "Travel Articles."
Any simple word processing program will work for this. I scroll
past articles I have in there, which are separated by a line
of dots or whatever. Then I write a title, a description, list
several keywords that will be in the article, and start the article.
There will be more on how to organize this in an upcoming lesson.
5. Write the Article
I write an article titled "Cheap Vacations - Ten Ideas."
I'm careful to include the primary keyword not only in the title,
but in the description, the first sentence or two of the article,
and in the last paragraph of the article. I also try to get it
into a sub-heading somewhere in the article.
6. Add an "Author's Resource" Paragraph at the
End
There will be much, much more on this important topic coming
up. This paragraph will appear in the "about the author"
box or area, where you will have a link to your website and entice
the reader to click on it.
7. Submit the Article to Directories
I submit the article to about a dozen article directories.
(Okay, I leave it in the file and my wife does this part several
times weekly.) Now my article can hopefully be found when people
search using that keyword - this is why keyword optimization
is so important. It can take up to a few months to be found in
the search engines depending on how well optimized it is and
the quality of the directory - the best ones get their pages
indexed by the search engines in just days.
To make money at this, I still need them to read the article
once they find it, click through to my site after they read it,
and click on an advertisement or buy something once they reach
my site. It generally all starts with a search engine for them,
though, so for me it all has to begin with keyword research.
Having said all that, I can tell you that if you just want
to write an interesting article, go for it. Sometimes a good
article with a catchy title will get picked up and used by other
websites. If enough do so, it doesn't matter if it is keyword
optimized or get's any search engine traffic. Good keyword tools
and research just make a profitable result more likely.
It is always better to get busy writing than to get discouraged.
However, if you are ready to learn more about how to use keyword
tools and research to maximize your results, read the following
two parts of this chapter carefully. They are adapted from two
articles I wrote a while back - one before I knew about Google
PageRank, and second from when I learned the best way to determine
if I could compete on a keyword. I think both have some valuable
insights.
