Make Money Writing Online
I have tried many ways to make money writing online, and succeeded
at a few of them. The following strategy is one of my favorites.
It is also one that you probably haven't heard about.
Make Money Writing Online Ebooks
Of course you've heard about ebooks and selling them online
but this isn't about the usual way it is done. A compelling ebook
to sell is still the best way to start this project, especially
one that "hooks" readers in the first chapter and leaves
them wanting more - you'll see why this is so important in a
moment. Write the book yourself or buy the rights to an ebook
you like, but you need the full rights, allowing you to do anything
you want with the content.
We'll suppose that you have an ebook on how to trade stocks
profitably, and use that as an example to explain the process.
First, make it into twenty or more chapters, and be sure that
each chapter - especially the early ones - makes the reader impatient
for more. Towards the end of each, leave hints as to what's coming
next or in later chapters. Make sure you let the reader know
she needs the information in Chapter Twenty or some other chapter
near the end of the book. Essentially, you want to constantly
"tease" the reader.
You'll need a website or a page on your existing site to sell
the ebook. If you don't want to learn the techniques of writing
powerful sales copy you can hire help for the sales page. Fortunately
even with a relatively weak sale's pitch, you're going to have
an edge on most seller's as I'll explain in a moment. The web
site or page itself can be promoted in all the usual ways, from
free or cheap advertising to writing and distributing short articles.
Sell the ebook through a service that handles digital products,
since it doesn't cost much to set up an account at these places,
and they'll handle the actual sales when that order button is
clicked on your sales page. This way you won't have to deal with
credit cards yourself. This keeps things simple, and allows you
to later spend more time working on your next project instead
of processing orders.
Up to this point this is how most people sell ebooks online,
but now comes the twist. You are going to give the book away
even as you sell it.
Break it into chapters or parts - twenty or more - and put
each part on a page of your website. Use an autoresponder (these
services start as low as $20 per month), to set up a mailing
to go out each week. Each email should direct the recipient to
the page with next part of the book. Once this is ready, you
can put a subscription form on the sale's page and advertise
the "free version," which will be just the same as
the regular ebook, but without any bonuses the paid version may
include. It also will come over a period of many months - one
part at a time. Once a visitor subscribes they automatically
get a mailing each week.
Now the visitor can buy the book or get it free a chapter
at a time over the months to come. How does this work for you?
People are impatient, and if the book is good, they will see
that and not want to wait to read it all. In fact, the first
time I tried this my book sales doubled. It's true. I sold twice
as many ebooks once I started giving them away like this.
Remind them continually in the mailings and on the pages that
they can buy the book if they want it all now. Remind them that
they'll get a bonus or two as well. Bonuses can be written by
you or you can buy an ebook or two with resale rights, or get
a free one that has free reprint rights (although these usually
promote the authors "real" product pretty heavily).
You might sell more books, as I did, but there's more to this
plan. The pages where the parts of the book are hosted can have
pay-per-click ads or affiliate promotions to make even more money.
I have used this plan twice to make money writing online, and
both times I made as much or more on the click revenue as with
the book sales. With the stock trading book used as an example
above, you might advertise a course on trading options on relevant
pages, or get commissions from an online broker that you recommend,
or just get good click revenue from a pay-per-click program.
