Writing For Money - Two Tips

On the internet, writing for money is not about selling what you write. Some good marketers might make as much as $50 per article selling their work, but with a world full of $5 articles, and even some decent ones at $15, there isn't much profit potential in this model. The way you make money writing online is by distributing your articles freely in order to drive traffic to your website.

The routine is fairly simple to understand. You write an interesting article with an "author's resource box" at the end. You submit it to various article directories, newsletters and other places, and people read it. They then click on the link in your resource box and come to your site, where you make money from them in a number of ways. Of course there is a lot more to this, but that's the basic idea. Now let's look at two ways to maximize your profit.

Writing For Money By Writing About Money

The subjects that you base your websites on and therefore the topics of your articles will in part determine how much revenue is possible. For example, if you have "monetized" a website with pay-per-click advertising, you might make just a few cents for each click on a website about romantic poems. A site on real estate, on the other hand, might average as much as forty cents per click.

Even if you are selling your own ebooks or selling products for affiliate commissions, there can be big differences in potential. A scrapbooking site might allow you to make a few dollars commission per sale by recommending supplies, while a website with a "work at home" theme could mean making $50 commissions selling how-to-make-money courses. So think about the subject or theme before you build the website, to make your time spent writing pay well.

However, don't automatically target the highest paying market niches. These can be the toughest to compete in. They can also make you lose motivation if you have no personal interest. Search among those niches that interest you (at least a little) and that you can compete in, and choose one of the higher-value ones. Money-related topics are often in this group, by the way.

Send Them To The Right Page

When you write your articles and distribute them, you will of course create an "author's resource box" that gives the readers a good reason or two to click the link and come to your site. But where will they come? The home page is used by default by most web site owners, but writing for money means sending that traffic to the most valuable landing page.

This could be a page with a product for sale. If you are selling more than one thing, focus on linking most of those articles to the page with the product which converts the best and makes the most profit - as long as it is relevant to the article. That's another point to consider. Ask yourself what page would readers of that article find most useful or informative. That way, they don't hit the back button when they get there.

Finally, you may get the most long-term value from that traffic if it goes to a page where visitors can sigh up for a mailing list. For example, even if you have a free newsletter, you might want to have a "sale's page" that convince people to subscribe. That way instead of them visiting once, you can have multiple opportunities to invite them back or to sell them something.
